Gosh Darn it, Bull Spit
Lent has begun. It is a time for sacrifice. Good Catholics (and even not so good Catholics like me) give "something" up for the 40 days between Lent and Easter Sunday, as a sort of gift for Jesus. It's a time for reflection and preparation for Easter Sunday. It's always hard for me to decide just what to give up. It should be something that I'll feel/miss, yet on the other hand it can't be too hard, because I don't want to succumb to temptation. A little self-denial is never a bad thing.
Many people will use this time for self improvement; perhaps motivation for weightloss, but I do not. I firmly believe that whatever sacrifice you choose for Lent, you should gain no benefit (i.e. weight loss) from it. The point of self denial is to have a little empathy for Jesus, who suffered for our sins, not personal gain.
Soooooooooooooo, I am giving up swearing, both in writing (on this blog) and in person. Truth be told, I really do not swear much in person. Sugar Bear has heard me swear so few times, that when I do, he knows he's in serious trouble. But here? Depending on the day, half the words on this blog are of the 4 lettered variety so this will be tough. Not quite as tough as something like giving up poker for 40 days, but difficult indeed.
The best part of Lent is every Sunday you get a reprieve. Sundays are free days, so you can indulge in whatever you've given up on Sundays. Love that! When I was growing up it was like a little party every Sunday. I usually gave up Hubba Bubba Bubble Gum so come Sunday, you'd find me chomping all day long.
Okay, let's see if I can discuss last night's horrible play without typing the work fark. :)
For some reason I decided to play a large tourney. $24+2 with about 1,200 peeps. I chipped up early, as is my wont, and was well ahead of average with about 8K when I got AA. I min raised in early position and someone with about the same stack size reraised me. I LOVE that. There was about 900 in the pot. I decided to shove all in instead of calling. As soon as I did it I thought there was no way he could call off his whole stack to me who had about the same, but I was wrong! He joined me, 8K all in and I was up against 9,9. Two outer!
Mama's aces held up! Now that I had chips....heck, I was the chip leader, I used my stack to leverage more.

Not too shabbay, right? I was up to over 18k but I was out of the tourney within the hour. I threw the whole gosh darn thing away. I am upset with myself and that's putting it mildly.
I lost half my stack with trip jacks. I bet hard, one person called and the next jammed all in. There were 2 hearts on the board. Do I fold there? I didn't. I called and the dude called behind me. 3 way all in. Are there 5 jacks in this deck? No! Neither one had a J. One had a flush draw and the other pocket 4s, which turned into a full house. Ugh. Half my stack gone. A few hands later I get 10-10 and raise big. Person in first position jams all in. Would you fold?????? I KNOW I should've folded but I did not. I called and I was in a race against A-K. I came in 2nd in that race. I should've known at best I'm racing and at worst I'm behind. I know the sting of losing with the jacks made me tilty enough to make that call. Then I was short stacked, jammed with middle pair and gg Josie......or I should probably say bg Josie.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results. I always chip up early. Always. Then I usually donk off the chips. Then I see the error of my ways. Then repeat.
It aggravates the heck out of me.
Play smart, unlike Very Josie.

Any other Catholic or former Catholic bloggers -- did you ever hear of the "freebie Sunday?"
Here's what I found on Wikipedia:
Most followers of Western Christianity observe Lent beginning on Ash Wednesday and concluding on Holy Saturday.[2][5] The six Sundays in this period are not counted because each one represents a "mini-Easter," a celebration of Jesus' victory over sin and death.
You may use pshaw and drat in moderation.
Lucki Duck, you smart guy! Thanks for the info.
I am really surprised to have had this shoot by me all these years. You'd think that growing up in a middle class middle-of-the-road Catholic environment I would have been part of the "Sunday freebie."
Now -- is it retroactive? Like if I have given up stuff for Lent for different years and included Sundays in Lent, does that mean that I am owed all the Sundays worth of stuff I gave up every year?
Yeah -- nothing like a little light-hearted jabbering about religious practices. lol
And I taught the holy one something about Lent. Yay me.
Those gypsy curses are a bitch.
Goat....you're scaring me. btw you have an AWESOME radio voice. All deep and Barry White. *sigh*
No more curse talk with that deep voice.
Baby,
In Ireland the supreme Island of Catholics the only reprieve during lent was St. Patricks Day so all the adults could get drunk & the kids were speeding on chocolate!
(Yes, Very Josie and I are just a few years apart, and we both remember when Hubba Bubba first came out - it was the first gum that came in blocks instead of sticks and my God, were they sweet.)
Anyway, you Catholics...wacky stuff...
Oh and thanks fore reminding me that I am 2 years older than a 42 year old Jewish guy with a long ponytail and plenty of white in his beard.
Spearing my schlong if I converted to your religion is on the wacky side, wouldn't you agree? : o P
Before you respond, remember it's Lent!
(I could grow to like this)
It's like a haircut: A little off the top, for god's sake.
I don't care who you are, that was funny.
Nothing worse than a man with dyed hair, except a man with a toupee.
More important question of course is did you overplay AJ, KJ or JT???
What I failed to mention is that I overplayed AJ like 3 times yesterday. AJ vs AA lost. AJ vs A4 lost...and I forget the other one. None of these were a factor in that tourney I mucked up though.
Josie..next time you get a big chiplead like that walk away for an hour and then come back to play. Forget about playing A-J.....
