Lunch with Hannah

I swear to you this was an actual conversation had TODAY, after the post about about Annie Duke.  Now as much as my mother likes game shows, her numero uno, absolute favorite, stop what you're doing, plan your housework around it, show is I Love Lucy.  Everything else can only hope for a very distant second.  She happily tells me that an I Love Lucy marathon has been going on since 6am yesterday and it will be on through tonight.  Woot!

Now just to goad her on I say "Well you can't watch it tonight because poker's on".  Her face turned to a grimace.

Mom: "That stupid poker.  Saturday and Sunday night.  Now it starts even earlier.  I tried to watch it and I don't like it.  I don't care what you say.  It's boring."

Me:  "You know that poker blog I was telling you about where I write things?  I wrote about how you hate it when poker is on GSN.

Mom: "Get outa here.  No you didn't. Who cares about that? That expert poker player Annie Duke was on 1 vs. 100 but she was the one playing.  She's about your age I think.

Me: "Oh she must've been playing for charity".

Mom: "Yeah, I couldn't believe she was the one playing.  She was there with Bob Saget, she looked so pretty. The long hair, she reminds me of you.  Guess what?  She lives with a man.  She said she has a Live. In. Boyfriend.  Can you believe that?  She advertises that on TV.  And she has 4 kids.  Oh and she said she'd never get married again.  Can you imagine?"

Me:  "That happens all the time Ma."

Mom: "Your cousin Rocky has a girl.  She won't live together unless she's married.  That's a smart girl. But she's too bossy.  She wants your cousin to take her out for fancy dinners 2, 3 times a week. And I mean expensive. $80 for dinner.  And she makes him wear a tie.  All new shirts and ties he had to go out to get.  She's gonna lead him around by the collar.  God forbid they get married."

Me: "It's the first girl he's had in like 10 years.  Maybe bossy is better than nothing."

Mom: "No! The man gotta be the man."

Me: "Ohhhhh"

Well, your mom tried to teach you right. Ungrateful child! She's every right to get a gypsy after you.
